Pkteers!
On November 8th, 2023, the PKT Community held its bi-monthly Discord roundtable discussion during which Pkteers shared the latest news and updates about the PKT project. Read along to get all the updates.
PKT Lead dev Caleb James DeLisle, shared a discovery relating to PKT mining, where there is a productive relationship between data sets and difficulty numbers. Based on discussions in PKT community chat on Telegram, it was accidentally discovered that it is better to mine with a difficulty number that is one value higher than a power of 2. This is because of a constraint in the search space for each dataset that is mine and the number of encryptions allowed per dataset depends on the difficulty.
Datasets are created using the RandHash function (i.e., the famous JIT). When miners increase the difficulty, it allows them to spend more time encrypting and less time JITing. Normally, this doesn’t matter because even though a miner can spend more time encrypting, there are still fewer announcements due to the higher difficulty. However, when the data set number is +1 more than a power of 2 as a rounding boundary, the number of allowed encryptions rounds up instead of down. So, the best difficulties to mine are 3, 5, 9, 17, 33, 65, 129, 257, 513, 1025, 2049, etc.
Founding community member Jesse Berger shared significant progress he has been making on the new pkt.cash website. Jesse has been collaborating with a graphic designer to give the site a fresh look. He has also been creating new pages related to cjdns, hyperboria, and the PKT Lightning Network payment rails. There is also an upcoming update to the ecosystem section, where projects and news will be highlighted. Jesse has also been rewriting the docs.pkt.cash resource to make it more cohesive and uniform in appearance. The fully updated website is scheduled to be launched in December 2023
Jesse was recently featured on the podcast: Web3 with Sam Kamani to talk about the PKT project, as well as Routie. Give it a listen! Jesse has also been reaching out about new exchange listings and will provide more updates on these endeavors soon.
Early community member Jeremy Berger shared great news about PKT recently being mentioned on Cryptopolitan. He has also informated the community that there are new articles coming soon to CoinTelegraph.
Jeremy reiterated his goal of working hard to generate content in the form of articles that raise awareness about PKT in the period leading up to the next Bitcoin halving in Q2 2024.
PKT community developer Dimitris Koukoulakis gave us an update on the PKT Lightning Network, which he has been working on. As of now, it is possible to request an invoice through a cjdns message to a specific IPv6 address. Now that this is working properly, he expects to share demo videos soon.
Caleb shared updates on the Network Steward governance project and soft fork. Caleb has been working on establishing a limit on addresses that can vote for and run to become Network Steward. This way, the voting system will be more representative of the users in the community and can mitigate against manipulation. The updated Network Steward soft fork is anticipated for Q1 2024.
Remember, our PKT roundtables are a space for Pkteers to share the latest updates with the PKT community. These roundtables are held on the PKT Discord channel every other week, and everyone’s invited! Thanks for reading, and we look forward to seeing you at the next one.
